Stuttgart. On the 5th and 6th of January 2019 the "Glaspalast" (Glass Palace) in Sindelfingen will play host to the 29th Mercedes‑B enz JuniorCup. The groups for the internationally renowned junior tournament have now been drawn. In Group A, FC Bayern Munich, SK Rapid Vienna, Hertha BSC and Glasgow Rangers will play against each other. Group B, meanwhile, sees FC Liverpool, Atlanta United, FC Schalke 04 as well as VfB Stuttgart competing for victory.

The Mercedes‑Benz JuniorCup is where the stars of tomorrow meet at an international high-class event. Mesut Özil, Manuel Neuer, Sami Khedira and Joshua Kimmich are just four of the many players from the history of the Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup who with their powerful performances at past events provided a foretaste of their future careers and who have all gone on to become national players.

Defending champions Hertha BSC will be going all out to repeat last year's victory. Nevertheless, the seven opponents are also sending highly motivated U19 teams to the event who are all fired up to take home the coveted title. For FC Liverpool, Glasgow Rangers and also Atlanta United, this is the first time that they will be taking part in the Mercedes‑Benz JuniorCup.

Star striker Mario Gómez from VfB Stuttgart was on hand to present the draw, which already promises some thrilling, high-class matches in the group stage. The 33-year-old ex-national player turned out as youth player for the Stuttgart team - which is a regular at the Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup - where he laid the foundations for his successful career as a professional footballer which has seen him pick up such titles as Champions League winner, German and Turkish champion and also Germany's Footballer of the Year.

The TV station Sport1 is covering both days of the tournament, reporting on five hours of live action on the artificial turf on each day. A lively crowd of fans and an entertaining programme of events are set to round off the Mercedes‑Benz JuniorCup, which is well known far beyond the boundaries of the region.

At the same time as the Mercedes‑Benz JuniorCup, the trainees of Daimler AG will also be playing for championship honours in Sindelfingen. The teams of the Untertürkheim, Bremen, Kassel, Gaggenau and Berlin plants will face off in Group A. Group B comprises teams from the Wörth, Sindelfingen and Rastatt plants as well as the EvoBus Neu-Ulm team and the Head Office team.
