Vehicles and equipment safely eastward-bound aboard Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks: Mercedes AMG DTM team on its way to Moscow with six new Actros
- The DTM team puts its trust in the new Mercedes-Benz Actros
- More than 2600 km across Poland, Lithuania and Latvia to Russia
- Charl Lohrmann, Mercedes AMG DTM team truck driver: "Reliability and safety play a particularly important role in view of the valuable cargo and tight schedule."
Affalterbach/Moscow - The German Touring Car Championship (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, DTM) will be a special guest in Russia, for the first time in the history of this most popular touring car championship, from 3 - 4 August 2013. The sixth of ten races in the 2013 DTM season will be run on the Moscow Raceway. The circuit, designed by the leading racecourse engineer Hermann Tilke, of worldwide renown, is located around 80 kilometres northwest of the Russian capital city, Moscow.
For the over 2600 kilometre long journey from its home in Affalterbach to the Moscow Raceway, the Mercedes AMG DTM team, HWA, is relying - as it does all year round - on a total of six new Mercedes-Benz Actros. The convoy will travel to Russia from Germany across Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. A minimum of four days have to be planned for the journey.
During the loading procedure of the Mercedes-Benz Actros for the DTM race in Russia, Charl Lohrmann, a truck driver of the Mercedes AMG DTM team, explains the advantages of the vehicle: "The Mercedes-Benz Actros proves its worth over and over again. It is just the right truck for motor sport transport tasks, where both safety - on account of the valuable cargo - and tight schedules play a particularly important role."
With a mileage of several tens of thousand kilometres having to be covered in each DTM season, Lohrmann also values comfort and in this connection points out not only the driver assistance systems such as the “Lane Keeping Assist” function and the “Proximity Control Assist” with stop-and-go-function, but also the generous spaciousness of the truck's cab. In addition he praises the vehicle's handling characteristics and fuel consumption figures.
Mercedes-Benz CharterWay tractor vehicles will be used to transport the vehicles, spare parts and other components for the control station and the pit garages. It takes the logistics specialists from the Mercedes AMG DTM team no less than an hour to load and to unload the trucks.
