  • East London/Stuttgart, Sep 7, 2007 - Mercedes-Benz has launched series production of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan in its plant in East London, South Africa. Thabo Mbeki, President of the Republic of South Africa, visited the plant on Thursday to celebrate the production start and investments into the new facility. Together with the President, Rainer Schmückle, Chief Operating Officer of the Mercedes Car Group, Dr. Hansgeorg Niefer, Chairman of the Management Board of DaimlerChrysler South Africa, Joachim Follmann, East London Plant Manager and numerous stakeholders gathered at the plant to commemorate the occassion.

This means that the certification department of TÜV Süd Management Service GmbH confirms that this estate car has been developed in line with environmental considerations in all aspects, as laid down by ISO standard 14062.

  • Stuttgart, Jul 2, 2007 - The new C-Class 4MATIC models are ready for the off. The permanent all-wheel drive system is now available for the six-cylinder models C 280, C 350 and C 320 CDI, with even greater efficiency and a lower fuel consumption thanks to further technical enhancements. Depending on the engine variant, the C-Class 4MATIC saloons cost between 40,281.50 and 46,707.50 Euro ex factory. A seven-speed automatic transmission is included as standard.

The certification body of TÜV Süd Management Service GmbH has confirmed the saloon’s environmentally focused development, which results in further advances over the entire vehicle lifecycle in important areas such as fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and selection of materials. Mercedes-Benz is the only automotive brand worldwide to possess this hard-to-obtain certificate.
