50 years of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles in Ireland
Time to celebrate at Mercedes-Benz Ireland: because, according to Fergus Conheady, Commercial Vehicle Sales Manager (left) and Stephen Byrne, Chief Executive of Mercedes-Benz Ireland, it is now 50 years since Mercedes-Benz introduced the first commercial vehicle sporting the three-pointed star to Ireland. It was an occasion that held particular significance for the Emerald Isle, back in 1967. The heavy-duty short-nosed Mercedes-Benz 1418 model, for example, was to become an important factor in the expansion of the Irish economy; and it remains popular with collectors and truck enthusiasts to this day. Nowadays it is no longer the 1418, with its "bull nose" design, that is such a typical sight in this right-hand-drive market, but rather the current range of Euro VI trucks from Mercedes-Benz. The most popular trucks among Irish customers are the Actros, Atego and Econic.
