Sindelfingen

Sindelfingen. For two days a total of eight teams from England, Scotland, the USA, Austria and Germany played at the Sindelfingen Glaspalast. Participating in the Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup for the first time, FC Liverpool won the tournament in the 3:2 final against Rapid Wien.

On the two days around 10,000 spectators watched a well-balanced tournament and youth football at the highest level, culminating in a final between the two best teams. For the last 22 years there has been no German team in the final. FC Bayern Munich took third place, beating Glasgow Rangers 2:0. Yusuf Demir (Rapid Wien) was nominated best player of the tournament, and the best goalkeeper was Vitezslav Jaros (FC Liverpool).

Thomas Hitzlsperger, patron of this year's Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup, former player in the German national team and Director of the VfB Stuttgart youth academy, comments: "Once again the Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup was a great advertisement for youth football. I'm always impressed by the way in which the players react to the special conditions in the hall in front of so many spectators."
