  • The Hambach plant, located approximately 25 kilometres from Saarbrücken, Germany, produces the smart fortwo.
  • Since 2018, the Hambach plant has belonged to the global production network for compact vehicles, which has Mercedes-Benz Rastatt as the lead plant. Other plants in the global production network include the Hungarian plant in Kecskemét, the Chinese production site BBAC in Beijing and the joint venture production plant COMPAS in Mexico
  • Since the June 2014 production launch of the new smart fortwo, the third generation of the series has been rolling off the Hambach assembly line. The Hambach plant has also produced the electric model since 2007.
  • The electric smart EQ fortwo coupé1 and smart EQ fortwo convertible2 were produced on the same production line as the combustion engine models until 2019.
  • By 2020, the smart brand will be entirely powered by an electric drive, and is thereby the world’s first car brand to complete the switch from internal combustion engines to electric drives.
  • In the future, the production plant will manufacture a compact Mercedes-Benz EQ model. In doing so, Mercedes-Benz is continuing its electric initiative. Investments of 500 million euros are being made into new halls with state-of-the-art technology, as well as into the products themselves.
  • The four-seat smart forfour is being produced by cooperation partner Renault in their own plant in Novo Mesto (Slovenia).
